I-5 AUXILIARY LANE PROJECT
This summer construction will start on a project to add an additional lane on I‐5 northbound from the Elligsen Road interchange to I‐205 northbound. With this addition, two lanes on I‐5 northbound will exit onto I‐205.
In addition to building the auxiliary lane, the project will:
- Widen shoulders on I‐5
- Remove noxious weeds and improve landscaping
- Improve drainage and stormwater management
- Replace substandard guardrail
- Upgrade signs
- Protect nearby wetlands
Starting in January 2011, a contractor for ODOT will remove trees along I‐5 northbound in preparation for this project. ODOT will replant trees once the project is complete. Removing trees is necessary to widen I‐5. Some of the trees are hazardous, posing a safety threat to drivers traveling on I‐5.
