Project Description

ODOT and the City of Wilsonville are ready to begin work on the I-5/Wilsonville Road Interchange Project, which will improve traffic flow and safety in the interchange area. Project elements include:

Converting Wilsonville Road from six lanes to eight lanes (two travel lanes and two left-turn lanes in each direction) within the interchange area Improving safety and capacity of the I-5 ramps Landscaping selected sections of the interchange Enhancing sidewalks and bike lanes Installing new street lights and decorative railing

Project Status

ODOT has selected Kerr Contractors Inc. of Woodburn as the prime contractor for the project. Kerr will begin work the first week in January 2011. Nearby residents will notice construction signs in the project area beginning in December 2010. Kerr will complete all work by November 2012, with the exception of some aesthetic elements (see Beauty & the Bridge section for more information). 

Traffic Impacts

Due to high traffic volumes, all work requiring lane closures on I-5 and Wilsonville Road will take place during nighttime hours as follows:

I-5 Northbound: 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday I-5 Southbound: 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday Wilsonville Road: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday

Daytime work will also take place, but it will be off the roadway and will not block traffic. Additionally, if the contractor elects to do weekend work, they are restricted to nighttime hours for any work requiring lane closures. During the course of the project there may be temporary closures of the I-5 on- and off-ramps. In these cases, we will not close ramps in both directions at the same time. 

Nighttime Construction

Nighttime construction noise may be audible to residents along the project corridor. However, noise levels dissipate as distance from the source increases. Parkway Avenue Closure

With the widening of the I-5 northbound off-ramp and Wilsonville Road, turning movements onto Parkway Avenue will no longer be safe. As a result, Parkway Avenue will be permanently closed and traffic will be routed one block over to the signal-controlled intersection at Town Center Loop West.
